TERMITE MUD TUNNEL IN SILL PLATE

This is a picture of a mud tunnel in between the three pieces of wood that make up the sill plate in the basement of a house.

As termites feed on the cellulose found within wood, they line the galleries that they create with a mud and cellulose combination of material. These tunnels help to keep their work area temperature and humidity controled.
