CARPENTER BEE IMAGES
The first image is of a carpenter bee. This large bee closely resembles the bumble bee except that the abdomen is hairless and shiney. 
The next image is of carpenter bee damage. Notice that these bees bore a nearly perfect 5/16 inch hole from the exterior. They then turn and follow the grain.
